By Fall of 2026 the GTC Center for Welding and Automation Excellence will open for classes. Designed by Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC)\, and being constructed by Thompson Turner Construction\, this building will be a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to showcasing and advancing the latest technology and tools of the welding trade. With a nationwide shortage in welding expertise this building is needed more than ever to train the future of the welding trade. \nAIA Greenville is dedicated to building a diverse talent pipeline for local architects. Every year\, AIAG provides a scholarship to one student at Greenville Technical College majoring in Architectural Engineering Technology that covers half of their tuition costs. All of the proceeds from this building tour will go into a scholarship fund for a GTC student this year.  Any contribution is appreciated as we work together towards a goal of $1\,200. Back then\, the property was a new section of Charleston formed by the completion of the southeastern sea wall known as High Battery. \nIn 1886\, when one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded east coast hit\, the home suffered significant damage. When the columns came crashing down during the earthquake of 1886 and were never replaced. Located at 13 East Battery\, it orginally featured a two-story Corinthian columned portico atop its arcaded base. Join us as we tour the complte restoration project of the home \, including the reconstruction of the prominent waterfront facade & columns. \nThe renovation is designed by Glenn Keyes Architects\, with construction by the craftsman of Richard Marks Restorations\, Inc.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGrab Your Tickets!

DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, September 3\, 2026\, the American Institute of Architects South Carolina Chapter (AIA SC) and the South Carolina Architectural Foundation (SCAF) will co-host the 2026 Design Awards exhibition\, People’s Choice Awards announcements\, and public reception at the SC Center for Architecture. \nIn conjunction with First Thursday on Main Street\, the SC Center for Architecture will be open to the public from 5:00 to 9:00 PM.  Project boards featuring the 2026 \nAIA SC Design Award recipients will be on display\, and at 7:00 PM\, the 2nd Annual People’s Choice Awards will be announced.  Light refreshments will be served. \nThe annual AIA SC Annual Design Awards program\, with recipients selected through a professionally juried process\, represent the pinnacle of design from South Carolina architects and architecture firms. 2026 Design Awards were announced on April 30 with a ceremony and celebration at Cannon Green in Charleston\, SC. \nThe People’s Choice Awards were open to the public for online voting from April 13- May 3\, 2026.  All entries submitted to the 2026 AIA SC Design Awards were eligible. \nThe recently renovated SC Center for Architecture at 1530 Main Street\, Columbia\, SC serves as South Carolina’s premier location dedicated to advancing architectural excellence\, design-focused programming\, and community dialogues on the built environment. \nEvent flyer

Participants will work alongside the regional nonprofit MountainTrue to remove debris and pollutants from riparian zones while learning how watershed health\, ecological restoration\, and site stewardship contribute to community resilience. Through guided discussion during the cleanup\, participants will explore how riparian systems support water quality\, reduce erosion\, mitigate flooding risks\, and protect adjacent built environments.
