SAP Training-Columbia
July 18 @ 9:00 am–3:30 pm

The AIA SAP Training Workshop is coming to Columbia!
Join us on Friday July 18, 9 AM-3:30 PM at the Center for Architecture space in Columbia for this one-day, nationally recognized building evaluation workshop. Intended for licensed architects, engineers, or certified building inspectors, this training certifies attendees as Building Evaluators in the nationally recognized Safety Assessment Program (SAP).
This one-day, in-person workshop with SAP instructor and structural engineer Patrick Murren will teach participants to conduct rapid evaluations of structures affected by earthquakes, wind, water, and more. Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to consistently and safely assess structures for habitability and will be registered as a certified SAP Evaluator with CalOES.
This program is managed by Cal OES with cooperation from professional organizations, including the AIA. It utilizes volunteers and mutual aid resources to provide professional engineers, architects and certified building inspectors to assist local governments in safety evaluation of their built environment in an aftermath of a disaster. SAP is the training standard of the AIA Disaster Assistance Program, which provides leadership, advocacy, and training to architects who are interested in volunteering their professional skills in times of crisis.
Eligible Participants:
All building industry professionals are welcome and will receive a class attendance certificate. Unlicensed professionals are welcome to attend the training and will also receive a certificate. After successfully completing SAP training, eligible participants may elect to join the State Guard and/or AIA South Carolina’s Disaster Assistance Program and volunteer to perform post-disaster assessments.
Eligible practitioners include:
