The William Ravenel House was built by William Ravenel in 1845, a partner in Ravenel & Stevens shipping company. Back then, the property was a new section of Charleston formed by the completion of the southeastern sea wall known as High Battery.

In 1886, when one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded east coast hit, the home suffered significant damage. When the columns came crashing down during the earthquake of 1886 and were never replaced. Located at 13 East Battery, it orginally featured a two-story Corinthian columned portico atop its arcaded base. Join us as we tour the complte restoration project of the home , including the reconstruction of the prominent waterfront facade & columns.

The renovation is designed by Glenn Keyes Architects, with construction by the craftsman of Richard Marks Restorations, Inc.
